========================================= New in the catalog ========================================= ARC – Chronicle https://www.groove.nl/shop/arc-chronicle/?v=1a13105b7e4e 01. Fracture (8:07) 02. Idyll (1:13) 03. Departed (8:23) 04. Mechane (1:28) 05. Slipstream (9:49) 06. Remembrance (1:48) 07. Friction (7:38) 08. Zephyr (2:19) 09. Rapture (22:00) LTD 1000 Live albums have always been a big feature of the DiN imprints output, with many of its releases featuring performances by label boss Ian Boddy either solo or in conjunction with other artists. Seven such albums have been as the duo ARC with Boddy alongside his friend and musical collaborator Mark Shreeve who sadly passed away in 2022. Their show at E-Live in The Netherlands from 2007 was the only concert of theirs so far unreleased and hence ‘Chronicle’ is both here to fill that gap and to provide a reminder of the power this duo could create in a ‘live’ setting. This concert was unusual in that ARC used it as a chance to showcase their recently released album ‘Fracture’ and indeed the duo constructed their set around the five tracks from that album, interlinked by short ambient passages. Underpinning the rhythmic elements of each piece is the huge Moog modular utilised by Mark over the years to such sensational effect, not only in the ARC project but his band Redshift. In creating that “Berlin School” sound, this system is the real deal and under his skilled sequencing the pieces have an organic life that breathe and can grow from a tiny staccato rhythm to a huge growl in seconds. Over this structure Boddy and Shreeve layer atmospheric effects, warm chordal motifs and blistering solo lines. The concert culminates in the sensational twenty-two minute epic track ‘Rapture’ which begins with spacey, drifting atmospheres before chordal Mellotrons add a sense of the grandiose. This just lulls the audience into a sense of calm before those sequencers thunder in to produce a truly hypnotic and incredible sonic climax. ‘Chronicle’ is a testament to the music of ARC but more particularly in remembering Mark Shreeve, who left us all way too early. ========================================= Gandalf – A Light from Afar https://www.groove.nl/shop/gandalf-a-light-from-afar/?v=1a13105b7e4e 01/ A Light from Afar – Prelude – 00:01:54 02/ A Light from Afar – 00:08:45 03/ Boundless Horizon – 00:06:33 04/ The Rose’ s Secret – 00:07:02 05/ Al-Andalus – 00:06:24 06/ Land of Conciliation – 00:09:50 07/ Shining Heights – 00:07:24 08/ Astral Harmony – 00:05:31 09/ Fields of Bliss – 00:06:46 10/ The Rose’ s Secret – Reprise – 00:03:53 With his latest work, the artist once again presents a first-class listening experience. Spherical sounds mix perfectly with symphonic elements, with epic chord progressions on the piano the ‘Lord of Sounds’ draws vast landscapes, colored by acoustic and electric guitar parts typical of his style. Especially in the title track ‘A Light from Afar’ you can clearly feel his roots as one of the pioneers of electronic/acoustic music of the eighties. ‘Boundless Horizon’ seems like a homage to Vangelis, the grand master of electronic music. ========================================= Vanderson – 2055 (Instock) https://www.groove.nl/shop/vanderson-2055/?v=1a13105b7e4e 1. Above All – 13:22 2. No Return – 8:53 3. A Few Minutes After Midnight – 6:27 4. Until Death Us Do Part – 16:32 LTD 300 Cosmic expanses of sound prepare you for the forthcoming space journey with dreamlike sequences that propel you through the cosmos, surrounded by soft strings, before entering a 70s atmosphere, as we know it from Klaus Schulze with choirs and solo sounds. The space cosmos carries us on to a concise Tangerine Dream sequence and beams us into the Schmoelling era (Tangram, Flashpoint). Playful dream sequences accompany us harmoniously onwards until we are standing dreamily in the cosmos. In the last long track, there are a few fine sounds that allow you to enjoy the calm atmosphere with fascination. A Ricochet-like sequence heralds the next trip. A wonderful Berlin School journey! ========================================= Vanderson featuring Lambert – Sequenced Thoughts (Instock) https://www.groove.nl/shop/vanderson-featuring-lambert-sequenced-thoughts/?v=1a13105b7e4e 1. Sequenced Thoughts Part 1 – 18:39 2. Sequenced Thoughts Part 2 – 21:31 3. Sequenced Thoughts Part 3 – 16:50 4. Sequenced Thoughts Part 4 – 15:29Vanderson returned to his sequencer based electronics for what he was admired for in the past. He already released various albums on several electronic labels like Syngate, Mellowjet and Generator. His recent Berlin School album on Spheric Music „Vandisphere“ received good reviews. This time he put more work into composing clever and ingenious sequences that are at the same time very captivating. This was a great inspiration for Lambert, who is also very much into sequences, to play upon Vanderson basics. Lambert, influenced by Tangerine Dream in the early 80s, added several sounds and melodies to make the 80s feeling complete (Tangerine Dream – Tangram / Pergamon). Vanderson found very good sounds to create deep and wide atmospheres as if somebody is admiring the astonishing cosmic space. Flowing sounds a la Planetary Unfoldings (Michael Stearns) lead into pulsating sequences. Maybe this is one of the most fully developed and sophisticated sequencer albums Vanderson ever released. ========================================= Projekt Gamma – Pulsar https://www.groove.nl/shop/projekt-gamma-pulsar/?v=1a13105b7e4e 1/ Interstellarer Raum – 9:56 2/ Lichter in der Ferne – 9:46 3/ Eismond – 9:56 4/ Gaswolken – 9:56 5/ Weite Ferne – 9:56 6/ Pulsar – 10:00 7/ Planet Europa – 9:56 8/ Planet K2-210 – 8:30Berlin School space music Copyright © 2024 Groove Unlimited, All rights reserved. |
