He has recorded many electronic music albums with various labels around the world and self-released music on Bandcamp. He caught our attention years ago with both his ambient and sequencer/berlin-school releases. His releases over the years with guitarist Marvin Allen veered into Pink Floyd territory and some of the guitar based recordings of Edgar Froese. Nothing goes over dreamy atmospheres and pulsating sequences like some great guitar work and maybe some drums! His “Solina” recording a year ago rocked Chuck’s world with its overall sound, depth and integrity and so Mike went after him for a release and the OS “ The Pulse of Life” was born. Xan Alexanders’ musical output over the past twenty years has been one that has seen him evolve into a style completely all his own. From his beginnings in The Omega Syndicate to working as a part of Magnetron and releasing his own solo material, Xan has introduced an English angle and many different sounds and spaces to the tried and true, predominately German-based berlin-style of electronica. Ouroboros II, Xan’s thirteenth solo release, delivers six courses of syncopated rhythms and soundscapes that come deep from the wells of sound electronic music can make these days. There are many details here and oh what sounds that create a bed for the rhythms and melodies that rise and dance. Recorded between May of 2023 and June of 2024, Ouroboros II is both a journey and an experience, something way more than the sum of its’ parts. The lead vocalist for Australian act ‘Echoes of Pink Floyd’, expect no saucerful of secrets here. Instead you are served up shorter flights of fantasy with Tangerine Dream, Steven Wilson, Vangelis and the movie “Stranger Things” on the brain. Matt’s debut solo release travels across many landscapes including the use of spoken word passages which makes songs more like a trip to “The Night Gallery” of Rod Serling. Upon Matt’s original digital only release, the idea of putting together a physical version of this project was a catalyst for what is now OtherSide. Remastered by Robert Rich to give depth and clarity to the nuances in these paintings, and with postcards specially created for the package by and forMr. Goodluck, “Inner Cosmos” became part of the physical world. While not having the public awareness of an Anekdoten or Anglagard, we see this release as a classic of the 1990’s neo-progressive rock movement. Johan Hanson’s soaring vocals along with superb musicianship bring both Genesis and Marillion to mind when hearing Lialim High, but the album was simply the band using their influences to create something new and an extension of the sound first heard on their debut release “Month Of The Year.” Upon breaking up in 2000 (following their third album, Moving the Deckchairs), the band remained friends personally but professionally decided to seek out other adventures. Mike reached out to bassist Petter Petterson with the idea of remastering “Lialim High” as part of OtherSide’s debut releases and the band members were thrilled with this idea. This release has come from the original DAT mixes, not used on the initial release, and was remastered by Robert Rich which gave new life to this twenty five year old recording. A – Winter Music Part 1 B – Winter Music Part 2 Richard Pinhas is a guitarist, synthesist and composer who has been a pioneer of the French music scene for over fifty years. From his works in the 70’s with the legendary progressive electronic rock band Heldon to his latest releases with experimental artists from around the world, Richard is a true artist who can both play a bad ass guitar and also explore its sonic boundaries. 1979’s “Iceland” was his third solo release and the first after the breakup of his band Heldon. A track originally recorded for the “Iceland” sessions, “Winter Music was shelved at the time for reasons unknown. Using the original looping procedures of the past made popular in the rock world by Fripp & Eno, Richard performed the song by hand-playing a PolyMoog directly into 2 Revox A700’s tape recorders. This is its debut on vinyl. Showing the minimalism and calm of the beginning of 70’s ambient music, the 2023 remix of this song brings new colors and flavors not heard in the original. Like a great black and white photograph, it takes you back in a time cloud full of depth and reflections. Essential ambient listening. Dantec, Richard Pinhas The French progressive electronic rock act Heldon originally existed from 1974-79. The constant in the band was guitarist and synthesist Richard Pinhas, who became known as the father of French electronic music between his solo releases and his work with Heldon. ‘Only Chaos Is Real’ (2000) was the first release of new material by Heldon since ‘Stand By’ over two decades earlier and showcased a darker, more industrial sound that took full throttle ’80s King Crimson and crossed it with the vocal energy of PiL stretched across riffs of searing Jazz-Rock fusion, all performed by crack French musicians. It also included vocals from sci-fi writers and philosophers who Pinhas had been working with on his solo releases during the interim. ‘Le Plan’ consists of four tracks from that album given new life after being remixed by Pinhas in 2023. The very first time that this music has been made available on LP format, it has been somewhat overlooked in the Heldon oeuvre, yet more than ever it predicted and reflects the world as it is now. The sound for this 2025 edition has been refreshed amazingly well (!). Now Mosaique sounds in first-class sound quality for its age (1981) and, with two special bonus tracks (Syntropia and Galactical), is a must for Schroeder fans of the 80s.
